We understand that running your own business may seem intimidating, and likely something new to you. That’s why we are here to provide you with all necessary initial training and ongoing support throughout your journey with Mathnasium.
We approach franchisee support like you might approach looking something up on the internet: our role is to provide you with the answers on every aspect of launching, growing and even eventually selling your franchise. We’ve been guiding franchisees since 2004, meaning you can draw on those years of experience to help in any challenges you face.
Led by the UK’s most successful franchisee, turned franchisor, John Preston, you’ll be guided by people who know what it requires to achieve your goals, and what it means to take the leap into franchise ownership.
But I don’t know how to teach maths!
No problem! You’re not buying a teaching job, you’re starting a business. Your role as the owner is to develop it, and employ instructors to do the teaching. That’s why you don’t need an education background to excel as a Mathnasium franchisee – our most successful ones didn’t have one before they started either. Zoe, our UK education manager, will walk you through everything you need to know on that side of your business.
The beauty of a good franchise model like ours is that it provides you with a proven structure, business model and systems. They work! John himself, as well as several other franchisees, are evidence of that. All you need to do is follow the model, and we (and the rest of the network) are here to share our experiences of the things you’ll face throughout your business journey. We’re proud to have a close-knit group of franchisees who regularly communicate with each other, sharing their experiences and what’s working well for them.
Our support focuses on helping you fill the gaps in your knowledge of running the business, so it includes hiring the right instructors and training them in the Mathnasium Method.
Initial training
You’ll start out with an abundance of online training, around 50 hours getting to know the business model, systems and the brand inside out. It equips you with the first stages of knowledge you need to launch and grow successfully.
Next, you’ll go through the instructor training yourself, learning how to be an instructor and what the Mathnasium Method is. This is a week-long programme, and you’ll also get involved in running a live centre in operation to truly understand how the business works before you’ve even launched.
The training is challenging because you’re stepping outside your comfort zone. You’re doing something different than you’ve done before – even if you have been a teacher previously, you’ll need to learn the Mathnasium Method and also learn how to run your own business.
Marketing
Your brand awareness locally starts with your centre. You’re on the high street, in a prime location (which we’ll help you find, design and fit out). Parents will be constantly travelling past your premises. Your centre front will always be a key part of your marketing, because it gets noticed and it makes people inquisitive.
We’ll assist you in developing your marketing plan, which will likely include a mixture of digital marketing, outdoor advertising and printed collateral. We’ll work closely with you on identifying exactly which type of marketing is delivering the best ROI for you in your particular territory; while the fundamentals are the same, each area has different opportunities to take advantage of.
Ongoing support
Throughout your time as a franchisee, John, Zoe and their team will be at hand to guide your growth to 80 students, 120, up to 250 and more… and they’ll also mentor you on opening multiple centres if that’s your ambition.
Regular visits to your centre ensure you have a strong relationship with Mathnasium head office, and are keeping on target with your business plan. Phone and email support are on hand whenever you need them, and we use WhatsApp extensively to ensure someone – including other franchisees – can share advice whenever you need it.
On top of that, we have regular network meetings (lockdown permitting), and every July there’s an annual conference for Mathnasium franchisees from around the world.
